Found this almost ancient photo of our front room back when we first opened the store (Domestic Bliss a.k.a. the floral period) and thought it would be fun to show the before and after of what it looks like now. (I know, you have already seen this "after" photo... but it has more of an impact to see them together.) There have been many B & A s in between these two shots- but I am not the greatest at making sure I document all of the changes. Our little cottage has seen almost every style; Shabby Chic, French Country/Traditional Cottage, Bohemian & now this more neutral transitional palette. Seeing so many furnishings, trends & goods at market is both a blessing and a curse. We find so many prizes on our shopping trips and one thing leads to another.... Thank goodness my family is good with change!

kitchen update...go with the flow

Sometimes you have to go with the flow...in life & in design as well~ For example,the original paper we wanted for the kitchen remodel was a gray lattice design which was modern and perfect in the kitchen. When we found out it was on backorder for a few weeks we decided on this paper. When it arrived, it was a much more subtle neutral than what we expected. We decided to stick with it and give it a try-

I am actually loving it.. sometimes things just work out that way and you have to go with it.

Updates:
-Painted wood floor grey
-Changed out cabinet doors, drawers and hardware
-Repainted cabinetry white (swiss coffee)
-Replaced butcher block island with industrial trolley
-New wallpaper
-Added can lighting
-New vintage light fixture

I am going to try and locate some old kitchen photos so you can see the transformation!

Here are some BEFORE & AFTERS from a living room project we have been working on- We really are fortunate when it comes to our clients- we have the most fabulous people that we get to work with. This family is no exception-they are just wonderful! We have another room that I hope to share with you from this gorgeous home (as soon as I get some photos taken). I will make a point of getting better before photos from this point on! PROMISE!

The goal of this project was to work with the large scale of the room with the furnishings that the clients already owned. It was an already beautiful room with gorgeous floors & newly purchased draperies & furnishings- it just needed a little finishing touch.

We decided on adding some wood trim and fresh paint to help fill the wall space. We did some new furniture placement with the furniture that the clients already owned. We added a console table behind the couch, added a few lamps & accessories and voila! We found this French inspired bookcase which is a much better size for the main wall than the existing armoire. It will be flanked with two spiral boxwood topiaries- Lovely!

Kimball Family Before & Afters

Unfortunately, we usually fail to take before & after shots of projects that we do- We sure have plenty of "befores" (for our research)but always get busy working and never get to the "afters"...Well, we lucked out this time. One of our latest projects for the Kimballs- (LOVE them), was photographed by their talented sister shortly after our install. Check out her photo blog.

Forgive the poorly lit before photos, they were purely for our reference- but thought you would enjoy seeing the transformation-

The Kimballs loved this Hacienda sofa- it became our inspiration for this room. We added touches of black to accompany the "new addition" that will soon be arriving at the Kimball home- (a BABY..... a baby grand that is!) It is sure to be a great room for family concerts and gatherings.Family Room Before:

The Kimball family originally had these comfy leather pieces in their front room. After working with them on the floor plan, we decided the best solution was to use them in the family room- this helped stretch the design budget and enabled them to get a new piece that they had their hearts set on for the living room!- We love to help our clients find new ways to use what they already own-

The goal was a fresh look for their family space while keeping it practical and kid friendly- *the leather & a distressed/ reclaimed table with an industrial feel was a perfect solution! We added some fun pillows, a side table. some accessories mixed in with their own & a collage photo wall. VOILA!

Niches don't have to be intimidating... think simple~the slipcovered barstools are from Lee Industries.

We started with some new art, pillows and greenery... still in progress~

In search of the perfect soft grey paint (or maybe a cool paper) for our tiny kitchen walls~ Dan and I are duking it out over it.

You know what time it is??? Spring cleaning and sprucing time!- Here are a few shots I took at our house from this weekend. You know the old story of how the shoemaker didn't have any shoes? That is how it is at our house most of the time-:( so we decided to give our space a little attention this weekend- (oh it makes me so happy!)

We brought the industrial trolley home to use as a replacement island to our wooden one. I think I am liking it. We just returned from a great trip to NYC- ... it was a trip full of inspiration and wonderful finds- I love the New York City Gift show because we get to see many companies that don't travel to the Western shows. We always find wonderfully unique things and this trip was no different-

One of the highlights was a visit to BALTHAZAR- if you go to NYC it is a must! We felt like we were in France- so well done. The food was fabulous, the ambience was perfect.

They are also well known for their amazing breads and bakery. Look at these beautiful pieces of art! We wanted to bring some home, but we already had too many carry-ons-

We shopped all day and picked one of NYC great eateries each night- It was lots of fun!

One of the favorites was BALTHAZAR- if you go to NYC it is a must.
